Theoretical Approaches to Participatory Communication - Action Research: Theoretical and Methodological Considerations for Development Communication
by Edna F. Einsiedel

Extract from introduction: Einsiedel proposes that community-based participatory communication projects are suitably studied used Glaser and Strauss' (1967) grounded theory approach. (...) Although the grounded theory approach violates certain tenets of naturalistic methodology, it nevertheless remains oriented toward generating theories to explain the functions and change processes of social systems. This chapter argues for the continuing relevance of data-driven research in the participatory communication context.
